The beginning of May 2011 started with some unusually wet weather but as soon as the rain stopped it quickly warmed up in time for our first guests to arrive. First was Mick Gee’s fishing party arriving in the third week of May with some of our regulars and some new guests to Lakeside. All caught fish with some having their own personnel best catches like young Jack his first time to Lakeside but not the last had a superb day in managing 20 fish in just one day “ Well done Jack! ” and then achieving his personnel best fish 26.5lb. Keith’s first time to Lakeside he was truly amazed at the beautiful lake scenery and excellent fishing Keith enjoyed chatting to everyone. Our regular guests Howard Paul along with Rambo Mick all had some very nice fish and Howard was first to catch off the lawns a nice 24.5lb and enjoys fishing and relaxing off the Lakeside swims. Rambo Mick was on his usual spot the big red dock while Paul Stokes likes to finish off a good day’s fishing with a good home cooked meal at Eddie’s Diner and a nice pint at the Thirsty Loon. Ronnie Corbett ( Paul Robinson ) finished off the 2 week trip with his own personnel best a superb 30lb..nice one Ronnie! We will see Paul’s later in the year along with Rambo Mick for some more great fishing and great weather as this years summer temperatures were well into the 90’s it’s been one of the best summers lasting right into the October Thanksgiving weekend one of the reasons the fishing report is much later this year and I know you have all been waiting and watching for my report I can tell you many of our regular guests have said “ they have never seen so many fish ” what a great start to the season.
“ Mike thanks again for another great trip and Eileen thank you for looking after us so well it’s home away from home here with all the little personnel touches including the nice chocolates thanks again
and see you next May Howard ”.

is a fantastic lakefront location and Lakeside really does have the best cottages we all really enjoy Canada…see you again in September ”. Mick Gee’s Group From Anglers World Holidays.

The first week of June in England is the half term school break so it’s a perfect time for a holiday with the family. Last year we had the pleasure of meeting Andy Elaine and young Lucy we were delighted to see them all return for their second visit to Lakeside Cottages again it’s just perfect for a weeks family vacation while Andy can enjoy the fishing relaxing and waiting for the big one! This year Elaine and Lucy were already busy working hard on this year’s sand sculpture just hours of endless fun on the beach and what an amazing castle! First prize of the season goes out to Lucy and Elaine very nice girls! Cannot wait to see next year’s sculpture! Look forward to seeing you all again.
Next to arrive is our regular Canadian guests Young Len 72 yrs old & Dude an amazing 82 years old
who just seemed to get younger each year. The weather was hot for the week and both guys enjoyed relaxing and fishing only yards from their cottage door with breathtaking lake views and great fishing just one of the many reasons why Len and Dude come back to Lakeside Cottages each year. Dude we were sorry to learn of Donna passing away we will miss seeing her at the cottage in summer but we hope to see Little Billy back again. Len it was a real pleasure to meet your lovely wife Shirley
and we will look forward to seeing you all next year and “ Well done Len nice fish this year!”
Next to arrive was Don & Brian along with Kevin’s Party all had a great time fishing off the lawns
and trying some of my local fishing hot spots. Keith had a nice 27.5lb off the garden swim with Steve
adding 9 fish in just one session...nice one lads keep the lines tight and feed going in it was a perfect night. Don and Brian really enjoyed meeting up with Canadian friends Terry & AL from Toronto sadly our lovely Jeanette from England Don’s wife could not make the trip this year so we are all sending best wishes for a speedy recovery to you Jeanette and we hope to see you all back here another time. Thank you for the lovely gift for Eileen that was very kind. Brian and Don had a great holiday and seeing Canadian friends again Terry and AL catching up over a beer and seeing AL take off in the float sea plane from the resort as Brian starts casting a line out “ What a movie setting it’s out of this world ” Brian tells us. Little Brian adores chilling out at the resort watching the friendly chipmunks diving in his bait bucket stealing the bait seeing Harry the Heron standing proud in the bay fishing for his lunch with fantastic scenery around the resort what better place to be. Rambo Mick here for 3 weeks this time joined little Brian in saying “ why would we want to go any where else when we can walk out of these lovely well equipped cottages throw my line in sit back and enjoy the wildlife which is beyond ones wildest dreams with Bald Eagles feeding and nesting close by and the sunsets are unbelievable it’s pure magic ”. Little Brian returned later in September celebrating a very special birthday while Rambo Mick returned to Lakeside in August for some more magic!
June we are delighted to host for the second time to Lakeside Cottages from Waterloo Ontario staff and students from “ The Bluevale College Fishing Club ”. It was Bluevale’s Collegiate second carp fishing trip and what another great experience for everyone. Teacher Mr. Darryl Keirstead along with Andrew Croft arrived in wonderful sunny weather with an extremely well organized party. It was to be for some a fishing trip of a life time with catching and reeling in a magnificent beauty common carp from the Lakeside garden swims I would mention last year the fishing was truly awesome with a superb beauty by Zach Davidson 32.5lb from the Lakeside big red dock so this year the pressure you could say was on and I’m so delighted to say “ Congratulations to Tyler Dietrich ” For reeling in and catching another magnificent beauty common carp 29.3lb “ well done ” and with runs nearly every single cast it was hard to keep up with them all the fishing went crazy as everyone was into the fish even the girls were catching. Congratulations goes to Holly Macintyre “ well done Holly ” for catching a nice 22.6 lb the biggest for the girls and for Dylan Park for the boys who was just piped at the post by Tyler enjoyed catching 23.7lb I would add that Dylan also caught the most fish! The rest of the students all enjoyed producing some superb fish from the garden swims some even managed to enjoy the activities playing ping pong, canoeing, kayaking, and sunbathing just a few of the many activities here at Lakeside. It was a great pleasure to help out and host these very well organized well behaved fishing students a big credit goes out to both the parents and the well organized party by Mr. Darryl Keirstead and team. “ Your hospitality has been second to none your facilities here are fantastic and the 29.3lb carp top it all off just perfectly this was our second visit to Lakeside Cottages and can say even better then the first visit with a lot more fish and many more fish that we just could not reel in! Thanks Mike for all you’re done ”. Darryl Keirstead Paul Moffat and the Blue vale Fishing Club. It’s been a real pleasure and I had a great time seeing everyone catch fish we are already looking forward to next year seeing the group again. Tight Lines to all at the Fishing Club see you next year Mike.
Regulars Andy and Gary from Leeds U.K arrived for 10 days fishing and what a trip for them both
Andy & Gary call Lakeside their second home “After the flight it’s so nice to get to the cottage and have a cold one thanks Mike it does not get any better then this ” Gary. Last year the boys managed
to catch a total of 179 fish in a week between all the three of them with their best day total of 58 fish John catching 20 Andy 19 and Gary 19 fish , a total weight of 2900lb all their previous record were broken. So for 2011 the goals were set high for Andy and Gary to catch more than 100 fish between the two of them…and Yes they fished hard and put the effort in catching a 101 with a total weight of 1500lb. “ Well done lads ” You sure did all the right things again by keeping the bait going working hard fishing the right times when the temperatures were hot and great rewards were had so once again with arms aching great suntans they headed home for a well deserved rest after a fabulous trip cannot wait until 2012 already booked for next year and Andy is bringing his girlfriend this time for a week in August the count down is on!
Mid June and Father and son Todd and Nathan joins us for the first time for a long weekend carp fishing. Todd from Thorold Ontario and has been fishing for carp for a short while enjoying the thrill of the mighty fight. The weather was perfect at the lake and Todd managed several good size fish and
beating his personnel best 28 .4lb “ Well done young Todd hope to see you here again ” And remember to keep the lines tight all the best Mike.
End of June and the weather still continued to be hot and very little rain we were delighted to see Steve and his lovely wife Kay from Leeds England arrive for 2 weeks at Lakeside Cottages along with the two Paul’s joining them for the second week fishing and relaxing meeting up with some
of the regular Canadian families from other past yearly trips enjoying a get together around the campfires at night watching those magical sunsets enjoying listening to Mike and Eileen’s famous Lakeside Quiz nights. As usual Steve and the two Paul’s had some really good fishing days with up to 30 fish between them in just one day And “ saying they had never seem so many fish this year ” Steve and the two Paul’s. Kay enjoyed just relaxing reading and sunbathing and one evening went off to the Little Lake Music fest show in Peterborough with Eileen to see World Class artists Natalie McMaster and Donnell Leahy and funny enough they live here in Lakefield so you never know who you can bump into while visiting. I must mention the Little Lake Music Fest shows start at the end of June and goes though to the end of summer for Kay it was a real treat and what a great show as Eileen and Kay came back to the resort dancing the night away nice one girls with various shows twice a week and with FREE admission its well worth the trip! Kay and Steve thank you for lovely gifts from England we will look forward to seeing you again.
“ Mike and Eileen keep everything spotless at the resort because of all the hard work they both put
in they are the perfect hosts making it such a Happy Camp ”. Lynne and Adrie Merseyside England.
We were sorry to hear you could not make the trip this year we truly missed you both and your other
fishing cottage friends did as well but the good news is the count down is now on for 2012 we are looking forward to seeing you both again!
End of August we were delighted to welcome back Mark and Jackie from Calgary both originally from the U.K now living in Calgary have been coming to Lakeside for Mark’s yearly carp session only this year not one week but TWO weeks! Also joined by Mick Gerrard alias Rambo Mick staying in his usual cottage no 4. Mr Chris Tarrant’s cottage and Mark and Jackie in their waterfront deluxe!
Only yards away from the fishing and with the temperatures being very hot all summer and water
temperatures over 70 + I suggested some night fishing might be needed when weather is like this.
Mark and Rambo Mick were soon in position and did not need much persuading and sure enough Rambo came up trumps with a superb 31.3/4lb “ nice one Rambo ” Mark continued his assault and caught several good size twenties and with the weather still hot the fish were biting in abundance and Mark had not one 29lb but had FOUR 29 lb’s Oh’ so close …FANTASTIC fishing Mark! And Jackie a non angler was able to join in the fun and help Mark with all the netting it was great fun and great to catch up on all the news between us all they even had time on this trip to explore more local sights. Count is on for 2012! Looking forward to it already. Labour day weekend it was great to see good friends of Mark & Jackie join them at the cottage Michelle Kirby and little Gemma all had fun fishing off the dock and Little Gemma 6 yrs old was first to catch fish and caught hundreds so she tell us!
Last year Andrew from Sheffield had a fish of a life time 41.1lb right here at Lakeside. It’s holidays like this are ones to remember not only for our guests but for me as well. “ Young Len you’ve missed the big one last time so we hope by now that you are fully recovered from the shock of Andrew’s big fish and are now getting ready for your return trip in 2012 ” … the big one will be waiting for you! Len and the gang have already booked for the trip to Lakeside Cottages and looking forward to seeing you here again.
Mornings and evenings are the right things to do when the temperatures are into reaching 30’ C great sport with great rewards for one who puts in the effort! Fantastic wild hard fighting fish are here and will really give the thrill of a life time. During summer months we are delighted to see the repeat of many of our Canadian families returning year after year the children enjoy the paddle boats rides the play area our superb safe sandy beach the sandy toy box or taking a canoe or kayak lesson. One of our regular fishing guests big Alan always tells us “ It’s more then just fishing at Lakeside Cottages ” we have just about everything for the entire family and for everyone of all ages. This summer we had the pleasure of the Williams family joining us. Jenn lives in Canada originally from the U.K and parents Peter and Stephanie visiting from U.K lucky for them all they found us came with the grandchildren in need of a good relaxing break Jenn tells “ Best cottage vacation we all have ever had so much so we are returning next summer ”. The Children can play for hours on end on the beach go swimming in the shallow bay area or go fishing off the docks for their very first fish and sometimes watch me play a wild hungry monster carp the biggest fish they will see! It’s the early mornings and late evenings for the carp fishing when it is really very hot in the summer months of July and August.

We were so very sorry to hear the very sad news of Cheryl’s wonderful mum Anne passing who we had the great pleasure of meeting a few years ago on holiday staying with us at Lakeside lots of wonderful happy memories to treasure and we were glad that you were able to join us for 2 weeks this September as Cheryl was in need of a good rest and Spike was in need of his carp fix and sure enough for Spike he got his fix with a superb 32.8 lb carp and with several other twenties. “ BBQ’s by the lake while I’m fishing is unbelievable Spike ” Cheryl enjoyed relaxing and chatting with Eileen and the weather was just perfect warm and sunny even going back to England with suntans. Rambo Mick joined Spike for his last fishing week at the garden swims and in saying “ best vacation ever 4 weeks in paradise ” Rambo see you next May with the rest of the Mick Gee’s group. For Spike and Cheryl the holiday got even better while evening fishing at Lakeside Spike and Cheryl could not believe their eyes seeing the Spectacular Northern Lights right here what an amazing show and a great treat for a great couple! We will look forward to seeing you both in June next year and thank you to you both for the wonderful gifts in helping us celebrate our 10th year as owners of Lakeside Cottages. Strange as it seems but Spike and I actually first met on a fishing holiday right here when I myself was a guest at Lakeside Cottages… still fishing together and the last week of September I managed a superb 34.5lb… that’s fishing!
Well what a year it has been excellent fish caught all year with much higher average weight and
with temperatures into the high 90’s one of the best summers ever. It does pay to work hard and
you will find the rewards all used boilies and corn but the main feed must still go in to keep fish
in the area. Once again new records were broken and many achieved personal bests. Another great fishing season over and fantastic memories of 2011. Many thanks to you all.
Looking forward to seeing everyone
next year all the best, Mike & Eileen. |
